Sony

In 2014 IDC was engaged to design the new head office for Sony Australia Electronics Division in North Sydney
The new fitout was spread over levels 2 | 3 & 4
The levels where a blank canvas after the base building space had been newly refurbished
Sony Australia had previous occupied a warehouse & office accommodation building at North Ryde for over 20 years and during that time to their business model had evolved & substantially changed therefore they wanted the new space to better support the way they wanted work
The building floor plate itself was challenging given it was an L shaped floor plan & only had two of the four walls as glass as well as a low ceiling at 2400 with a perimeter bulkhead at 2250 so the design had to flow & give the effect of a spacious | visually exciting space to be
Level 2 & 4 accommodates the open workplace where Sony Australia teams could be high collaborative within retreat spaces provided for team workshopping against the two long core walls
The workstations were organic in plan enabling their occupiers to morph them into differing responsive clusters
Central to the floor was an organic shaped Town square | breakout offering an alternative longing space for people to collaborate
Level 3 accommodates a subsidiary division Sony Mobile as well as the main reception and a suit of meeting | Boardroom & multipurpose rooms as well as a central to the firm breakout
The multipurpose rooms which connect to the breakout support Sony Australia for their major product launches which happen several times each year
Hero graphics feature throughout the fitout particularly in the Boardroom & principal corridor aside the meeting & Multipurpose rooms
With the move to North Sydney Sony Australia adopted a virtual philosophy for their marketing of their new product with large TV monitors in reception displaying their latest inovations

Fitout over 2450 square metres on levels 2 | 3 & 4 of 165 Walker Street North Sydney
